Problem 1:    

Can't get custom content to show up after installing a new Expansion Pack or Stuffs pack.

I have had this problem several times - after trying all kinds of "solutions" that I had found by searching the internet - this is what finally corrected the problem.

How can I recover my installation key, as I have lost my booklet?

The easiest way to recover you serial key for "The Sims 2" & all the other expansion packs that you have installed, is to:

Download & use OtherworldBob's

Sims 3 Key Printer                      

Note - it requires Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework (it can be downloaded from Microsoft's site.
